BIOS dump analysis
The start of every job, in seconds: the machine identified, the chip checked, and only the operations that apply to this dump offered.
When to analyse a BIOS dump
- Identify the machine from its dump, even without a label
- Check that a dump is complete and read correctly
- Spot a damaged BIOS before programming
- Find a board's serial, UUID, MAC address and Windows key
- Know which operations apply
A dump read from an unknown machine, an unlabelled board, a file found elsewhere, a bricked machine before a rebuild: the sheet says what it is, what state it is in, and what can be done with it.
At a glance
- What it does
- Identifies the machine (brand, model, board, reseller and original manufacturer), the BIOS version and the platform, Intel or AMD, with the ME version, the embedded controller (EC), Boot Guard and Secure Boot. Checks the chip's state: full or partial dump, damaged areas, faulty read.
- Which machines
- Any BIOS chip dump read with a programmer, .bin or .rom: one or two chips, plus the EC chip dump.
- What you get
- The technical sheet, a to-scale map of the chip, and the operations that apply to this dump; an operation set aside says why.
- Good to know
- No change to the file. A faulty read is flagged: read the chip again before any operation. The analysis does not guarantee that the machine boots.
What the analysis reads and checks
- The .bin or .rom files read with an SPI programmer (CH341A or other): one chip, both chips of the same board, and the EC chip dump if you read it, three files at most.
- Intel and AMD, full chip or BIOS region alone, UEFI BIOS as well as pre-UEFI BIOS.
- The identity: brand, model, board, original manufacturer and reseller, serial number, UUID, MAC address, OEM Windows key, BIOS version and date.
- The platform: Intel ME version, embedded controller (EC) and its maker, CPU microcodes, Boot Guard, Secure Boot keys, boot entries, embedded drivers (VBIOS, GOP, Intel RST, NVMe, network), whether a password is set.
- The dump's state: whole chip or fragment, second chip missing or from another board, faulty read, swapped bytes, shifted content, an image that has never booted.
- A file that is not a PC BIOS is recognised and named: EC dump, Thunderbolt controller, graphics card, Apple T2 chip, blank chip.
- A to-scale map of the chip, region by region.
What the analysis does not do
- It does not change the file.
- It does not guarantee that the machine boots: it recognises a destroyed or badly read chip, not a finely erased sector, which only shows next to a healthy image of the same board.
- On AMD, or without the landmarks of an Intel platform, it says there is nothing to check instead of making up a verdict.
- It does not guess a model the dump does not carry: the brand or model may then be missing from the sheet.
- It refuses any extension other than .bin or .rom, more than three files, or three files that are not two BIOS chips and one EC chip.
How it goes
- 01
Upload the dump
The .bin or .rom file read with your programmer; both files for a two-chip board.
- 02
Read the sheet
In seconds and free: the machine, the chip's state, the possible operations.
- 03
Run the operation
Pick one of those the sheet offers. If the operation cannot complete, the refusal says why and no file is delivered.
- 04
Program the file
Download it and program the chip. Always keep the original dump.
What holds for every operation
Several operations, one upload
After an operation, run another on the same dump, or continue from the result. Every job keeps its history.
Two-chip BIOS
Upload both files: they are analysed together, and the result says which chip to program.
Related operations
Clear the BIOS / EC password
The password is erased from the dump; it is never revealed.
Dell, HP, ASUS / AMI, Acer / Insyde / Phoenix, Lenovo ThinkPad, Huawei / Honor.
Clear ME
PCH swapped, SSD or Wi-Fi not detected: the ME starts again as on first boot. It is not disabled.
Intel, CSME 11 to 20.
Disable soldered RAM
The soldered memory is no longer used: the machine boots on the memory stick.
Intel and AMD, DDR4 and DDR5.
