Operation
Motherboard replacement
You replaced the motherboard. The new board's BIOS boots, but the machine has lost its serial number, UUID and Windows key. The site takes the new board's dump and places only the old board's identity in it; everything else stays that of the board that boots.
Every operation is free during launch.
When to use it
- Keep the customer's serial number and UUID on the new board
- Recover the Windows activation tied to the machine
- Never mix two identities on a used board
- Know before launch whether the family is supported
A used board fitted in a customer's machine, a new board shipped blank or with a placeholder identity, Windows deactivated after the swap, a serial number to find again in Setup.
At a glance
- What it does
- Takes the new board's dump and places only the old board's identity in it: serial number, UUID, chassis number and Windows key. The rest — ME, GbE, EC, settings — stays that of the board that boots.
- Which machines
- Intel and AMD, one or two chips, same chip sizes on both sides. Acer on Compal boards: also add the new board's EC chip dump.
- What you get
- The new board's dump, with the old board's identity; an independent check re-reads the result before delivery.
- Good to know
- Both dumps count as a single machine. ThinkPad and Acer on Quanta boards: refused.
How it goes
- 01
Upload both boards
The old board's dump (the customer's) and the new one's (the board that boots), read with a programmer.
- 02
They are compared
Both dumps are analysed; the site checks that the boards match and that the old board's identity can be read.
- 03
The transplant
The old board's identity is placed on the new one; everything else stays that of the board that boots.
- 04
Program the files
One file per chip of the new board and the combined image. Keep both original dumps.
What holds for every operation
Several operations, one upload
After an operation, run another on the same dump, or continue from the result. Every job keeps its history.
Two-chip BIOS
Upload both files: they are analysed together, and the result says which chip to program.
Related operations
Rebuild from the manufacturer update
A BIOS rebuilt from the official update, with your machine's identity.
Intel and AMD, one or two chips, with the manufacturer's update for that model.
Carry the identity over to the EC
Acer on Compal boards: the identity lives in the embedded controller, not in the BIOS.
Acer and Packard Bell on Compal boards. EC chip of 64, 128, 256 or 512 KB.
Clear ME
PCH swapped, SSD or Wi-Fi not detected: the ME starts again as on first boot. It is not disabled.
Intel, CSME 11 to 20.
